Checking out NYC restaurants is one thing that first time New York City visitors or even frequent guests for that matter, should look forward to. Whatever your taste buds crave for - whether it is a fancy and expensive fine dining experience or a simple slice of the world-famous homemade pizza, the city can provide. You just have to know where to look. Here are some of the favorite restaurant destinations in one of the busiest cities in America.
'Inoteca - 98 Rivington St.
This Italian restaurant is famous for its small plates that are perfect for sharing as well as the great wine variety it offers. The egg toast truffle is a must-try as well as its various cheeses, salads or pastrami, charcuterie, and excellent coffee. Anything goes well with their wines. All menu items are reasonably priced too. If you plant to come with a party of 6, you better make a reservation first.
Pongsri Thai - 106 Bayard St.
This exclusive Thai restaurant is renowned for its quick service provided by friendly and helpful staff, affordable prices, and of course its authentic dishes including Thai salads, appetizers, exotic soups, and noodle dishes like Rad Nar and Pad Thai. Hot and spicy, if that's your thing, then you should make a side trip to Pongsri Thai.
Babbo - 110 Waverly Place
One of the NYC restaurants that feature a celebrity chef, Babbo opened shop in 1998 and has since been providing [locals and tourists|its diners] some of the best Italian food and wines you can find anywhere in the city. To have an idea as to how difficult it is to get a table there - they accept reservations up to 30 days in advance just to secure a table for your party which should not exceed 6 persons! They do have a few tables for walk-ins, though.
Balthazar - 80 Spring Street
Loyal patrons have been coming back to Balthazar since 1997 because of its seafood towers and succulent steak frites. The [restaurant|diner] exudes a warm ambience where anyone can feel welcome - from young backpackers to vacationing middle-aged couples from nearby states. The servings are big and can be shared by even a party of 4 or more people. Then complete the meal with a wonderful dessert like the profiteroles.
Lombardi's - 32 Spring St.
Lombardi's claims to be the first pizzeria in the United States, having first opened its doors in 1905. Whether it is true or not, there is no denying the fact that their pizza is among the very best. One problem though - it is very difficult to decide which of their pizza flavors to order as they are all fantastic.
Kat'z Deli - 205 East Houston St.
Their and hand-sliced and piled high pastrami and corned beef sandwiches on rye are bestsellers. Kat's Deli also boasts of being the location of the world-famous "orgasm" scene of the movie "When Harry Met Sally." Not too many NYC restaurants have that distinction. Although their sandwiches may be a little pricey, they are big enough to share.
